How it works
Ten minutes to set up. Then it just arrives.
Connect a client's QuickBooks
Intuit's standard OAuth. Thirty seconds per client, no bank credentials, no data entry.
Confirm their targets
We pull budgets straight from QuickBooks. If there aren't any, type monthly targets into a simple table.
Set who gets it, and when
Up to five recipients per client business plus five of your own. Weekly, or daily on the days you pick.
The status logic
Three colours, one rule, no interpretation needed.
Every category is measured against its monthly budget, and against a prorated pace — the budget divided by days in the month, times days elapsed. Over budget only once spend passes the budget itself; running ahead of pace before that is a watch, not over.

Built for accountants
Fifty clients. One roster. Nothing to chase.
Connect each client's QuickBooks once and Budget Canary handles the rest. Add up to five recipients per client business so owners get their own copy of the same numbers, the same week you do.
Questions
The ones we get asked first.
Still unsure? Reply to any email and a human answers — there are only a few of us.
Never. Budget Canary connects to QuickBooks Online through Intuit's standard OAuth flow, so your banking credentials never touch us. Intuit publishes a single accounting scope and it covers reading and writing — there's no read-only version to ask for. We only ever read: Budget Canary requests reports and budgets and nothing else, and never moves money or edits your books.
Most small businesses don't, so that's the default path. If we don't find budgets on connection, we prompt you to enter monthly targets per category in a simple table — up to twenty line items — and you can edit them from settings at any time.
Weekly by default, sent Sunday night. You can move it to any day and time, or set it to arrive daily on selected days of the week — the same way you'd set a recurring calendar invite.
Yes. On the Accountant plan you can add up to five recipients per client business, plus up to five people on your own team. Everyone sees the same numbers in the same email.
There's a web app for onboarding, budget editing, schedules and billing, plus a dashboard view of the current month. But the email is the product — the dashboard is there for the weeks you want to dig in.
Disconnect QuickBooks to revoke the token, or delete your account and every associated record from settings. Unsubscribing from the digest is one click in any email and never cancels your subscription.
Find out on the 17th, not the 31st.
Connect QuickBooks, confirm your targets, and get your first digest this Sunday.
